11:10am - 12:00pm Yi Tang, UCLA Synthetic Biology for Chemical Production. Microorganisms ranging from bacteria to yeast have been engineered using synthetic biology approaches to produce small molecules, such as biofuels, commodity and specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals. In this talk, Prof. Tang will give an overview of the technology development in recent years and highlight opportunities at the new BioPACIFIC MIP.

In this interactive workshop, graduate student and postdoc participants will meet some of their colleagues and learn how to design with an iterative, customer-facing mindset. They’ll also be introduced to some of the basics of intellectual property and tech transfer. (Professional development activity, limited capacity)
