 Stretching / Networking / Proposal Preparation Office Hours: 9:50am - 10:20am (PDT)

 Break: 10:20am - 11:10am (PDT)

Time (PDT) Speakers Description
11:10am - 12:00pm Jose Rodriguez, UCLA Practical Approaches in Electron Diffraction: Atomic Structures from Tiny Crystals. Monomeric molecules and their assemblies are at the heart of most modern chemistry applications. Their structures in the solid state are many times fundamental to our understanding of their function, origin and reactivity. In this talk, I will provide an overview of a new technology (microcrystal electron diffraction) capable of interrogating molecular structures with atomic level accuracy, from nanoscale assemblies. I will also highlight opportunities for use of this technology through the BioPACIFIC MIP, and use of cryogenic electron microscopy more broadly.
12:00pm - 12:50pm Andrew Cal, Mango Materials An Introduction to Mango Materials and PHAs. Mango Materials produces polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) made through methane fermentation. We will discuss the history of PHA commercialization along with the properties of PHAs that make the PHAs an attractive and challenging target for commercialization.

 Lunch Break: 12:50pm - 1:50pm (PDT)

Time (PDT) Speakers Description
1:50pm - 3:50pm Steve Lee, Stanford, Joshua Speros, BASF, Stephanie Veve, BASF, Predrag Cvetkovic, BASF, and Arica Lubin, UCSB  Individual Development Plans: Understanding Yourself to Thrive Personally and Professionally. Your self-awareness is critical as you prepare for your future career, especially considering numerous studies that show that many of us lack the metacognitive skills to assess ourselves accurately. During this interactive workshop, you’ll be presented with tools such as the Individual Development Plan that can enhance your metacognitive skills, and learn how similar tools are used in industry. (Professional development activity, limited capacity)
3:30pm - 4:00pm Tal Margalith, UCSB, Adam Stieg, UCLA, and Eleni Papananou, UCSB Proposal Preparation Office Hours
